AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #37

Amazing Spider-Man #37 features an exciting creative team, including writer Zeb Wells and talented artists Ed McGuinness, Emilio Laiso, Mark Farmer, Wade Von Grawbadgerr, and colorists Marcio Menyz and Erick Arcinega. The story follows up on the previous issue's Rek-Rap storyline, where Spider-Man and Mayor Luke Cage sought help from Madelyne Pryor at the Limbo embassy. Their goal was to address the damage caused by the rogue demons plaguing New York City. However, their request for assistance took an unexpected turn when Pryor unleashed a new demon known as the Repossessor, or Re-Po for short. Now, Spider-Man must find a way to halt Re-Po's pursuit of Rek-Rap and prevent further chaos.

Rek-Rap, a demon whom Spider-Man rescued in the Dark Web crossover, became an ardent admirer of the web-slinger and decided to embrace the role of a superhero himself, modeling his persona after Spider-Man. This character concept takes inspiration from Bizarro, a backward incarnation of Superman. In fact, Rek-Rap is essentially a reversed version of Spider-Man, even deriving his name, "Parker," from Spider-Man's alter ego. Alongside Rek-Rap, there is a group of other demons who pretend to be alternative versions of Spider-Man's famous foes. These imitators also face the wrath of Re-Po.

In the preview pages, we gain insight into Rek-Rap's backstory through his perspective (illustrated by guest artist Emilio Laiso). The flashback portrays Rek-Rap engaging in a mock battle with one of his demon "Rogues," Kraken the Hunter, as they recreate the iconic confrontation between Spider-Man and Kraven the Hunter. Intriguingly, Kraken mistakenly believes that he must wed Rek-Rap, whereas Rek-Rap corrects him, explaining that his intention is to bury him alive. This revelation shocks Kraken as he views such sadistic intentions as appalling. However, when Re-Po materializes and forcibly transports Kraken back to Limbo, Rek-Rap seeks assistance from Spider-Man.

Spider-Man promptly confronts Rek-Rap for feigning ignorance about Re-Po's identity. Both Spider-Man and Rek-Rap witnessed Re-Po transporting one of Rek-Rap's "Rogues" to Limbo in the previous issue. However, Rek-Rap remains evasive about the reason behind his inability to return to Limbo. The explanation for Rek-Rap's adamant refusal to go back to Limbo will be revealed in next week's release of Amazing Spider-Man #37.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I am excited about the upcoming issue of Amazing Spider-Man #37. The story seems like a lot of fun, and I can't wait to see how Spider-Man battles his demonic alter ego, Rek-Rap. I think it's really cool that Rek-Rap is a Bizarro version of Spider-Man, and I'm curious to see how his character develops. I'm also interested in learning more about the other demons who pretend to be alternative versions of Spider-Man's famous foes.

I think it's great that Marvel is taking a momentary detour from the intense drama surrounding Spider-Man's recent encounter with Norman Osborn's sins. It's important to have some lighter moments in a comic book series, and I think this issue will provide some much-needed comic relief. I'm looking forward to reading Amazing Spider-Man #37 and seeing how the story unfolds.
