In 2024, Marvel's comics will showcase the beloved classic Disney characters on their covers to honor the 60th anniversary of the Avengers and X-Men.
To mark this occasion, the Disney What If...? variant cover series will be introduced as a monthly program, gracing select issues of Amazing Spider-Man. Across the span of the year, twelve covers will be released, each featuring iconic Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy. These covers will depict significant moments from the history of the Avengers and X-Men.
Marvel has unveiled the first three covers, each capturing a unique milestone. One cover reimagines Avengers #1 with Peg Leg Pete taking on the role of Loki. Another features Mickey and his friends transformed into the original X-Men. Lastly, we see the iconic Disney characters coming together as the Avengers, with Goofy assuming Captain America's shield and Pluto holding Thor's hammer.

Disney Characters in Marvel's Silver Age
This year, The Walt Disney Company partnered with Marvel to commemorate their 100th anniversary through the Disney 100 variant covers. Now, in 2024, the Marvel characters return to grace the covers as they celebrate the anniversaries of two of Marvel's most beloved teams -- the Avengers and the X-Men. The newly revealed What If...? variant covers draw inspiration from comic book stories that depict alternate scenarios in the Marvel Universe, exploring how things could have been if pivotal moments had unfolded differently. Starting in Marvel's Silver Age, the first three covers feature Disney's characters embodying the roles of both superheroes and villains, paying homage to the Avengers and X-Men who made their first appearances in 1963.
The Amazing Spider-Man #41 variant cover recreates Avengers #1, featuring Donald Duck transforming into the Incredible Hulk and Goofy wielding the Mjolnir as Thor. They face off against Peg Leg Pete as Loki, the God of Mischief. In the What If...? recreation of X-Men #1 on Amazing Spider-Man #43, Pete assumes the role of Magneto while Mickey Mouse takes on the character of Cyclops. Finally, Disney legends recreate Avengers #16, portraying themselves as Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The Disney version includes Minnie Mouse as Scarlet Witch and Mickey Mouse as Quicksilver. The Disney What If...? variant covers will be released in 2024, starting with Amazing Spider-Man #41, available for sale on January 3.
