Newly released footage from Season 2 of House of the Dragon was shown to journalists today, along with the exciting news that the show is set to premiere in the "early summer" of 2024.
HBO's House of the Dragon, a highly successful prequel to Game of Thrones, derives its storyline from George R.R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood. The first season, consisting of 10 episodes, captivated audiences from August to October 2022.
Season 2 was greenlit right after the debut episode garnered a substantial viewership. The returning cast, along with new additions to the ensemble, have been actively filming the follow-up at Leavesden Studios in the UK. A group of reporters had the opportunity to witness the first trailer of the sequel series during a New York event this morning, which was then followed by an official announcement from HBO.
House of the Dragon Season 2 will air “early summer” 2024
HBO's network chief Casey Bloys revealed to Variety that the anticipated Season 2 of House of the Dragon will be broadcasted in the "early summer" of 2024, slightly earlier than the first season.
Additionally, Bloys mentioned that a new Game of Thrones spinoff titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is scheduled to begin filming in spring next year, contingent upon the SAG-AFTRA strike coming to an end.
House of the Dragon has remained unaffected by that issue because the scripts for the show were completed before the writer's strike. Additionally, the actors working on the show are bound by Equity contracts instead of SAG-AFTRA.
