The Big Picture

Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Gerard Butler team up in the crime thriller In the Hand of Dante produced by Martin Scorsese.

The film is based on Nick Tosches' novel and tells the story of a scholar who commits a daring act by stealing the original manuscript of Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy.

Starring a remarkable ensemble of actors with diverse film backgrounds, the movie showcases Isaac's accomplishments in both independent and big-budget films, Momoa's notable role in Game of Thrones, and Butler's well-known status as an action hero in B-movies.

In the Hand of Dante, a new crime thriller, will feature a star-studded cast including Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Gerard Butler. The film, produced by Martin Scorsese, is currently in production. Oscar-nominated director Julian Schnabel (known for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) will take the helm of this adaptation of the late Nick Tosches' 2002 novel of the same name. Deadline reports that the story revolves around a fictionalized version of Tosches, a scholar who is approached by mobsters to authenticate Dante Alighieri's original manuscript for his narrative poem The Divine Comedy. However, Tosches decides to steal the manuscript, leading him on a fateful path. The narrative alternates with that of Dante himself, who escapes to Sicily and pens his literary masterpiece as a tribute to his lost love, Beatrice. Schnabel has been involved with the project since 2011, when Johnny Depp acquired the rights to the book. Currently, filming for In the Hand of Dante is taking place in Italy, with an interim agreement between the production and SAG-AFTRA allowing shooting to proceed despite the ongoing actors' strike.
